Windsor, CT — The Academy of Aerospace and Engineering 6–12, a magnet school operated by the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), hosted Mr. Mohan Kocherla, Director of Educational Programs at the Center for DNA-Guided Medicine (CDGM), for an engaging presentation on the expanding career opportunities in Medicine, Genetics, Biomedical Research and Allied Health Care. The event, held on September 23, 2025, connected classroom learning with the real-world applications of modern healthcare and laboratory science.

Students from multiple-grade levels 6 through 12 participated in the interactive session, where Mr. Kocherla discussed the diverse range of occupations in the medical and biomedical sciences and the academic pathways that prepare students for them. As part of his talk, several students who attended CDGM’s summer health science program conducted a live molecular experimental session, offering their peers a chance to experience laboratory science firsthand.

“Mr. Mohan Kocherla was recommended as a guest speaker by three students who participated in his summer program at The Center for DNA-Guided Medicine. Mohan's presentation covered occupations in the Medical and Bio-Medical fields and how to prepare for them. He encouraged a dialog with our students during his discussion about college and career readiness and had the summer students demonstrate nucleic acid isolation procedure as he spoke. He is engaging, motivating, knowledgeable and provides a practical guide for students to identify and develop their passion into their career.”
Charles Copeland, Career Development and Industry Partnerships, Academy of Aerospace and Engineering 6-12, CREC, Windsor CT

The presentation highlighted how genetics and personalized medicine are shaping the future of patient care and scientific discovery. Students asked insightful questions about college readiness, career mapping, and the evolving landscape of biomedical innovation.

The success of this STEM outreach event underscores the power of collaboration between schools and scientific institutions. By working together, educators and laboratory professionals can cultivate a community-driven approach that inspires curiosity, strengthens scientific literacy, and motivates the next generation of scientists and medical professionals.

Center for DNA-Guided Medicine continues to partner with local schools across Connecticut and Massachusetts to expose students to hands-on science and career- focused mentorship, bridging the gap between academic education and healthcare professions.
