The Center for DNA-Guided Medicine (CDGM) was invited by Newington High School staff to present at the school’s Annual Career Fair, where the clinical team inspired students through a hands-on exploration of careers in biotechnology, laboratory medicine, and allied healthcare. The presentation highlighted the real-world impact of DNA science, personalized medicine, and diagnostic innovation—encouraging students to envision future careers in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry.

CDGM’s interactive booth showcased real-world applications of DNA science and precision medicine, capturing the curiosity of students eager to explore careers in laboratory medicine and molecular diagnostics. Participants learned about cutting-edge lab techniques, including genetic testing, pharmacogenomics, and the growing role of data in medicine.

Lori Cuyler, Workforce Development Specialist at Newington High School, shared her appreciation:

“It was one of the first times we have had a representative like this! Your passion and expertise truly sparked their curiosity, and it was incredible to see them so engaged and intrigued by the possibilities in this field. Opportunities like this help shape their futures, and we are so grateful for your time and insight. We would love to stay connected and explore future opportunities to collaborate and continue inspiring the next generation of medical professionals.”

The clinical laboratory staff at the Center for DNA-Guided Medicine emphasized the importance of early exposure to medical science:

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. Students who engage in molecular analyses–based studies not only gain technical skills but also learn how medicine and data intersect to improve patient care.”

The Center continues to partner with high schools across Connecticut to bring STEM-infused programs, career exploration workshops, and hands-on lab experiences to students interested in science and healthcare careers.

At the Center for DNA-Guided Medicine, we believe in providing access to hands-on learning opportunities that empower students to visualize and achieve success. With continued support from parents and schools, we can expand this program and help more students gain the experience and skills needed to enter the medical and research fields.
